Tang Soo Do is a relatively modern martial art based on the ancient Korean art of Soo Bahk Do which has existed for many centuries. Grand Master Hwang Kee, founder of Tang Soo Do, mastered Soo Bahk Do and Tae Kyun at the age of twenty two and, after traveling to Northern China in 1936, he learned Tang techniques. He combined these techniques and, in 1945 he registered the Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do method as the Korean Soo Bahk Do Association.
Tang Soo Do is a composite style made up of 60% Soo Bahk Do and 40% Chinese arts. It is a hard and soft style, derived from the overt power and strength of various techniques (hard) and other Chinese influences (soft).
